English Short Story: The Curious Cicada

 

Once, there lived a curious cicada named Slippy who loved to explore the tropical forest.

옛날 어느 날, 열대 지방의 숲을 탐험하기를 좋아하는 호기심 많은 슬리피라는 매미가 살았습니다.

 

One day, Slippy was flying by when it came across a group of insects gathering around a colorful object. Slippy was amazed by its beauty. 

어느 날, 슬리피가 날아가고 있는 도중, 알록달록한 물체 주위에 모여있는 곤충 무리를 발견했습니다. 슬리피는 그 물체의 아름다움에 놀랐습니다. 

 

"Wow, what is this?" Slippy asked.

"우와, 이게 뭐야?" 슬리피가 물었습니다.

 

"It's called a flower, " one of the bees answered. "It is a plant that blooms the most delightful, gorgeous petals. When you see them, you'll know it's spring."

"이건 꽃이라는 거야, " 벌들 중 한 마리가 대답했습니다. "이건 가장 아름다운 꽃잎을 피우는 식물이란다. 네가 얘네들을 보면, 봄이라는 것을 알게 될 거야."

 

Slippy sat perplexed. It was curious to learn more even though it had never seen a flower before.

슬리피는 당황한 채 앉았습니다. 비록 꽃을 본 적은 없었지만, 더 알아가고 싶다는 호기심이 생겼죠.

 

Slippy carefully listened as other insects and animals described the various kinds of flowers that existed, picking up new vocabulary words like "stamens, " "petals, " and "leaves".

슬리피는 다른 곤충들과 동물들이 묘사하는 다양한 종류의 꽃들에 대해 주의 깊게 들으며, "스타멘, " "꽃잎", 그리고 "잎"과 같은 새로운 단어들을 배웠습니다.

 

Slippy was thrilled to learn about such beauty that it decided to go on a flower expedition.

슬리피는 그러한 아름다움에 대해 알게 되어 흥분되었고, 꽃 탐험에 나가보기로 결정했습니다.

 

Slippy explored the entire forest, surprised to discover a wide variety of flowers -- some big, some small, some colorful, and some dull.

슬리피는 숲 전체를 탐험하며, 크고, 작고, 화려하고, 칙칙한 다양한 꽃들을 발견하고 놀랐습니다.

 

Slippy's passion for flowers grew over time, and it became an expert in the field.

슬리피의 꽃에 대한 열정은 시간이 지나면서 점점 더 커졌고, 그 분야의 전문가가 되었습니다.

 

Slippy was happy that it wasn't afraid to wander around the forest to learn something new. 

슬리피는 새로운 것을 배우기 위해 숲을 두려움 없이 돌아다녔던 것에 행복했습니다.
